The Daily Report (11/1/22)
Monday Night Football was a trick for the Bengals, a treat for the Browns, and the Jazz keep winning!?
Monday Night Football: Bengals vs. Browns (32-13)
When the Browns envisioned what their offense might look like this season with Baker Mayfield out and their QB position being left in the hands of Jacoby Brissett, last night’s game was what they had hoped for.
Brissett was efficient only throwing 22 times and completing 17 of those passes for an average of 12 yards a throw.
The dynamic duo that they have in the backfield in Chubb and Hunt produced and carried them once again as they combined for over 100 yards on the ground with Chubb scoring twice.
Their defense also gave Joe Burrow nightmares all game long as he threw a pick and lost a fumble that summed up their night on offense.
Burrow’s throwing spread was balanced as 6 players on the Bengals caught at least 20 yards. The absence of Jamaar Chase was evident, however, as when they needed a big play in the Browns’ part of the field they couldn’t get it and the Browns’ defense was able to pounce on the Bengals’ simply terrible offensive line (5 sacks).
The Bengals move to second place in their division behind the Ravens at 4-4, while the Browns (3-5) finally pick up a win as they try to gain momentum in the AFC North.
The Jazz Win Again as they Defeat the Grizzlies at Home
The Jazz had already beaten the Grizzlies two days prior to this matchup but the Grizzlies were without Ja Morant, so I don’t think anyone was particularly impressed with that win as much as the win they got last night. Not only did the Jazz win last night but they dominated the Grizzlies.
After a first quarter that was fairly even, the Jazz outscored the Grizzlies by 20 (38-18) in the 2nd quarter.
They were able to finish the job and beat the Grizzlies by 16. Ja put up a valiant effort as he scored 37 and continued to play in rampant form to start the new season.
To be quite honest the Grizzlies aren’t as healthy as they want to be yet, but giving up a run of the magnitude they did in the 2nd quarter is not acceptable if they want to go further in the playoffs than they did last year.
For the Jazz, Lauri Markannen has been a phenomenon so far for them as he tries to revive his career that seemed promising at times. He’s averaging a near double-double, averaging well over 20 points a game, and shooting at a 50% clip.
Their bench has been spectacular for them as well as the Jazz are one of the deepest teams in the NBA in terms of top to bottom talent.
They are now 6-2 and seeking to keep proving doubters wrong as the Will Hardy-Danny Ainge era rolls along.
